26th of June 2018 : French Tech Summit in Tokyo Feedback
French Tech Tokyo held “The French Tech Summit in Tokyo” on the 26th of June, 2018. This event marked the termination of one month of many events promoting La French Tech and France’s innovation ecosystem. Organized in collaboration with our partner, EDGEof, the event gathered 5 speakers around a roundtable on “Why choose France”, 15 exhibitors and more than 120 visitors.
First event held “for startups and by startups”, the French Tech Summit in Tokyo was the occasion to promote France’s attractiveness in digital sector and excellence of French startups to Japanese innovation ecosystem.
Moderated by Mr Alex Odajima, Co-CEO of EDGEof and French Tech Tokyo’s partner, the roundtable gathered:
- Mr Tetsu NAKAJIMA, Chief Investment Officer, Mistletoe http://mistletoe.co/
- Ms Rui YAMAMOTO, CEO Office Manager, Triple W, http://www.www-biz.co/
- Mr Jean-Dominique FRANCOIS, Representative Director, Hello Tomorrow, http://hellotomorrowjapan.org/
- Mr Hiroumi MITANI, CEO & Founder, FutuRocket Co, http://www.futurocket.com
All the speakers were able to exchange their views on France’s startup and digital ecosystem. They concluded that France is a place with a high level of education, a solid scientific background and a large market (for example in silver economy). The entrepreneur Mitani Hiroumi stated that France has a better environment for startups and investors, compared to US where life costs are too high. He also emphasized that France is very good business partner for Japan. Overall, all speakers agreed that regarding the current international environment (increase of protectionisms, BREXIT, etc…), France is well positioned to be the next Startup Nations’ leader.
The event was also the occasion for the visitors to meet with some French entrepreneurs and startups, along with some members of French Tech Tokyo’s community. 15 exhibitors were there to show French expertise in new technologies:
- French entrepreneurs and startups based in Japan and members of French Tech Tokyo’s community (Secure-IC, Next Level Asia, Locarise, Magency, Me-Fie, Devialet, HirePlanner, Hello Tomorrow, LeWagon) ;
- French representative of CEA Tech (CEA being 2nd most innovative R&D center in the world) ;
- French companies offering acceleration or incubation program for startups in Japan (Orange, Bouygues Asia, WeAre Pacific…) ;
